clock and money

We all have had our run-ins with clients who clearly go overboard with their expectations of us. From wanting discounts, to additional services, to more personal attention, this could be draining your business of time and money. Here are 3 horrible mistakes you are making by not setting boundaries with your clients.

Your Over Accommodations Can Become Expected

By not setting boundaries, you are over accommodating. This is soon to be expected behavior all the time from your client. Before you know it, they will set that same expectation up for your potential clients that they refer to you. Think of how much money you can lose out on.

You Are Not Being Fair to Your Other Clients

By giving additional time and attention to another client, you aren’t being fair to your other clients. Think what you could accomplish with that additional 15 minutes for another client, but had to tell them you didn’t have the time. Your work performance could also lag if you are too tired to properly handle another project.

Your Time Is Not Being Valued and You Are Losing Other Business

If you are devoting more time to another client than what you agreed upon, you may be missing appointments and great networking opportunities. Your time needs to be compensated for, regardless of how much business they will bring you.

To work around these situations, send out a friendly reminder of your contract highlighting your sales policy. Also, you could make an announcement in your next newsletter about a lower priced package you can offer that may accommodate your “cheaper” clientele.

    • So true Susan. Expectations are a big plus, no matter what industry.
